About the Work
Red Nails forms part of South of the River, a photographic series exploring working-class life, community and the changing character of south-east London. The project is deeply personal: the artist was born and raised in south-east London and still lives there, giving the work an intimate connection to the places, people and communities it documents.
Photographed inside a local fish and chip shop in 2023, Red Nails captures an interior that has since disappeared. The shop has since been refurbished, preserving in the photograph a version of the space that no longer exists.
