About the Work

Rye Lane forms part of South of the River, a photographic series exploring working-class life, community and the changing character of south-east London. The project is deeply personal: the artist was born and raised in south-east London and still lives there, giving the work an intimate connection to the places, people and communities it documents.

Photographed in 2023, Rye Lane captures a familiar scene along one of Peckham's most important shopping streets. With a long history of independent trade, Rye Lane has become a centre of working-class life and a focal point for the area's diverse communities, shaped particularly by generations of African and Caribbean businesses and traders. Today, the street faces increasing pressure from redevelopment, raising questions about the future of the independent businesses and communities that give it its distinctive character. The photograph documents an ordinary moment of everyday life against this wider backdrop of change.

Limited Editions

Each print size is produced in a strictly limited, numbered edition, with the edition size varying according to the dimensions. Once an edition sells out, no further numbered prints will be produced in that size.

In addition to the numbered edition, one Artist Proof (AP) is produced in each size. Artist Proofs are separate from the numbered edition and are traditionally retained by the artist.

Limited-edition, fine-art inkjet print on archival Hahnemühle Photo Rag Baryta 315 gsm.

Each print is produced with a white border proportioned to the print size. The dimensions listed above refer to the overall paper size, including the border, with the image printed proportionally within these dimensions.

Each print is signed, titled and numbered by the artist on the front lower border and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.

Prints are supplied unframed and carefully packaged in a protective shipping tube.
